It’s alarming to see half of the US populations are obese and 1/3 of them are children. With the demand of daily life, we often do not have the time nor money to educated ourselves on what good for our body and what’s not. Gym membership can be an alternative, but with the growing number of unemployment, it’s more essential to get food and shelter then spend hours on the tread mills. Often times, you’ll see what is label as “junk food” being a whole lot cheaper then “organic food” in supermarket. Where does that leave us?

According to my doctor’s friend, besides the common cold and flu, headaches are one of the most common reasons why people seek out medical’ advice. Stress is the most obvious trigger, but skipping meals, not getting enough sleep, poor posture and eye strain (from watching too much TV or staring at the computer system too long) can lead to tension headaches. Also, foods high in sugar, salt, nitrates (found in meats such as SPAM and hot dogs) or caffeine can also trigger tension headache. You can help minimize these headaches by exercising, eating healthy, drinking enough water (at least 8 cups per day), taking a warm bath or just stopping what your doing at the moments and relax for 10 minutes if you feel a headache coming on. Ibuprofen are usually quite good in relieve headaches. If your problems continue, seek out a health care providers.

I used to eat spam when I was a teenager and loved it. Now I look back and go “eww”. Eating healthy is the only way to go now!

I still eat spam now and again… I only eat junk food when I’m stressed and craving for it… (and sometimes for snacking – if there’s nothing else to eat). But what can we do? Some people live on poor salaries – so they have to find alternatives… Do people in America have fruit and veg markets? There are lots here in London, and I think about $1.5 can buy a 1lb of cherries… or something like that…

Hi Macy,
Like you, I used to eat lots of junk foods when I was teenager, but have move on to more fruits and veggie. Once in a while, I craved french fries from McDonald or potato chips. Hehe! Can’t get junk food completely out of my system.

Hi MeiPY,
I understand. Food is so expensive. I just brought a gallon of milk for $8. YIKES!
At the cooking school I attended, there is a farmer’s market every Saturday. They sell fresh fruits, veggie and other stuffs at a really low price, but unfortunately I don’t really go because I have no place to put it and I’m in class for 4-5 hours.
I usually head to Costco to buy majority of my stuff and give half to either my mom or my in-laws.

Do you have a Costco there? For $1.5 for 1 lb of cherries — that’s really cheap. Sometimes I wish milk and OJ were that cheap. ;)

There is a Costco here, but I’ve never come across one. Majority of our supermarkets are Morrison’s, Somerfield’s, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda and other chains like Costcutters and M&S.

Milk is kind of cheap over here… 50p (about $0.70) for 0.5 litres. But $8 for a gallon is expensive! It just depends on which supermarket you go to… OJ is definitely expensive. You just have to watch out for the buy one get one free offers. But a lot of people say, can you drink it all?!

Hi MeiPY,
Wow! That’s is so cheap. About $0.70 for milk. Wish we had that in Hawaii. Both my husband and I go through a gallon of milk every 2 weeks. We eat cereal almost every day for breakfast and I usually drink a glass of warm milk before bed. OJ is another drink, I’m crazy about.

Great tip on the buy one get one free. I usually used coupons when I shop to save a bit of money. They come in the mail, Sunday newspaper or on-line.
